I have not altered my original network configuration in any other way, other than to change that one port setting, and it has worked the way it should. Prior to doing this, I couldn't get past the RPC error messages, no matter how my network was configured.

I followed every step of symantec's Doc ID 2004071911425704 re:Fax Sharing client cannot connect to host after installing Windows XP SP2.Īnd what I believe to be the true solution on my network was simply to open port 1090 on the local subnet in Norton Antivirus' Internet Worm Protection (or Zone Alarm, or other firewall) on the host computer. I have tried every possible combination of fixes, as most of you have, and found the following: I have been extremely frustrated (to say the least) by Symantec's obvious lack of support for WinFax. "Winfax Sharing Solution?" - Mike Product Rating: 3/5 Of course if you are using the Windows Firewall you would want to follow the instructions in the first three sections also. I ignored the first three sections since I am using a different firewall than the Windows Firewall. What finally worked is I went back and followed the directions for manually "Reconfiguring Windows XP security settings". Check that this is the correct host name." Tried using the host computer's IP address instead of the computer name when configuring the WinFax client computer's "Fax Sharing Client Properties - Select Host," but to no avail.
I could ping the host machine and knew I had the correct host computer name, but kept getting "access is denied. After following the directions from the Symantec support articles, I was still unable to get the host and clients to communicate.

"XP 2 solution" - Coop Product Rating: 2/5Īfter updating WindowsXP to SP2, I installed the WinFax Pro 10.04 patch to continue allowing WinFax sharing on a peer-to-peer network. i hope this will for everyone.ītw, both my Host and Client computer is using WinXP SP2 after that, the host can log on to any account, no need to use the same account as the host. the host should also have that account, you can use any existing account as long as you have access rights to the host computer. What i did was i changed the "LogOnAs" property of the "WinFax PRO" service (Administrative Tools\Services) in the client computer to an account in with administrative priviledge. I noticed that if the server and the client uses the same username and password, FaxSharing will work. I don't know if my solution is already posted before, but here's what i did.
